Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club defeats Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club

Shooting their highest score of the season Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club defeated Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club 1499 to 1255 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row, Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club is in first place in their Division with a 3 - 0 record. Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club was led by Rylan Kissell who shot a 383. The remaining contributing members were Travis Stockton, Ryan Burdick, and Kendra Kissell. Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club is from Golden, CO, and is coached by Marilyn Mumby.

Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club dropped to 1 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club was led by Brianna Citrigno who shot a 376. The remaining contributing members were Jace Creger, Sanjana Nandi, and Emily Macias. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club is from San Jose, CA, and is coached by Michael Davis.

Next up Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club will compete against Midland Young Guns from Midland, TX. Midland Young Guns currently has a 1 - 2 record. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club will compete against Scarborough Fish and Game Association from Scarborough, ME. Scarborough Fish and Game Association currently has a 2 - 1 record.

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
